Edit Delete Effective Leaders Choose to be Coached – Here’s Why Lynda Hoffman March 3, 2023 by Lynda Hoffman Comments (0) lifecoach, executivecoaching, leadershipcoaching, Coachingexecutiveprofessionals, ADHDcoaching, ExecutivePerformancecoach, Onlinebusinesscoach, OnlineADHDCoach Effective leaders know that to maintain their edge they need to see their edge &.ndash. and beyond. They recognize that if they can&.rsquo.t see their own blind spots, patterns and world views, they&.rsquo.ll be making decisions based on erroneous information. Acting on what they believe to be true, rather than on what is actually true, is a great way to guarantee muddy results. Effective leaders know intuitively that self-awareness is the key to creating desirable results. Coaching is all about developing that deeper awareness by revealing what cannot otherwise be seen. As a busy executive or professional, you&.rsquo.re already a life-long learner. But how aware are you? Are you applying your curiosity to yourself? Your patterns? So how does coaching help leaders? Coaching is the one place where you can explore what you truly want &.ndash. with no fear of being judged or found wanting. You can question your own point of view in confidence, and play with alternate ways of seeing your experience. You get to learn how to think flexibly, learn about your strengths, face your challenges and discover the wisdom you already have. Coaching is the process that supports you in finding your own answers. You learn to be your own best ally by regularly exploring how to make your deeper knowing sustainable across time. Over time, you learn to trust yourself in a new way. How effective is it? A client told me recently that she was awestruck at how effective a single coaching conversation was for her. Another had tears in her eyes when she shared her gratitude for quickly making a deep connection about a pattern that she&.rsquo.d been trying to understand for decades. That&.rsquo.s how powerful the coaching process can be. If you&.rsquo.re serious about transforming your business or your career outcomes, give yourself this gift. Working Memory: What’s Your Name Again? Lynda Hoffman March 3, 2023 by Lynda Hoffman Comments (0) lifecoach, executivecoaching, leadershipcoaching, Coachingexecutiveprofessionals, ADHDcoaching, ExecutivePerformancecoach, Onlinebusinesscoach, OnlineADHDCoach It&rsquo.s embarrassing for any executive or professional to forget the name of the person you just met, but it&rsquo.s not life-changing. It&rsquo.s the other working memory lapses that have a much bigger impact on your relationships and your career: consistently veering off course during a conversation, interrupting people because you&rsquo.re afraid you&rsquo.ll forget what you want to say, or arriving late for important meetings because once again you got caught up in a phone call. It&rsquo.s not just frustrating for you &ndash. but for everyone else around you. No matter how good your intentions are, weak working memory will wreak havoc with your results. The significance of working memory to your overall performance cannot be overstated. It is the linchpin to all other executive functions. If it&rsquo.s in top working order, other executive functions will be too. When .prioritizing, working memory helps you remember &ndash. in the moment &ndash. all possible priorities while you sort through them. When .planning, working memory helps you hold in your head all the details that you need to make time for. .Regulating your emotions .requires you to remember what you&rsquo.re trying to achieve &ndash. despite the pull of strong feelings. You may be accomplished and highly intelligent and still struggle with working memory. When you do, the contrast between your intellectual ability and your ability to execute consistently can have a devasting impact on your self-concept. No matter how smart you are, or how much you care, the people around you may judge you for these working memory lapses and not who you truly are. Worse, you may be judging yourself. A Tale of Two Visits: Rotterdam Then and Now John March 1, 2023 by John Comments (0) . Today, I visited the city of Rotterdam, and I must say, it's almost unrecognizable from my last visit 50 years ago. Everything has changed so much, from the buildings, the people, the culture, and the vibe of the city. . . . Firstly, I noticed how modern and futuristic the architecture has become. The city skyline is now dotted with tall, sleek buildings that are a far cry from the traditional Dutch buildings that I remember from my last visit. The Erasmus Bridge, a stunning suspension bridge that spans the Maas River, is a particularly impressive addition to the city's skyline. It's a true marvel of engineering and a beautiful sight to behold. As I walked around the city, I noticed that there are now many more green spaces and parks. The city has really made an effort to incorporate nature into its urban landscape, which is a welcome change. The parks are well-maintained and offer a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Express taxi den haag Another noticeable change is the diversity of the city's population. Rotterdam has always been a multicultural city, but the diversity has increased significantly over the past 50 years. I saw people from all over the world, speaking different languages, and practicing different religions. It's great to see such a mix of cultures coexisting harmoniously in one city. The food scene in Rotterdam has also undergone a massive transformation. When I last visited, there were mainly traditional Dutch restaurants, with a few international options. Now, the city boasts a diverse range of culinary experiences, with restaurants serving up cuisine from all over the world. From Vietnamese street food to Spanish tapas, there is something to satisfy every palate. The shopping scene has also changed dramatically. When I last visited, there were a few large department stores, but not much else. Now, the city is home to numerous boutiques, high-end designer stores, and trendy concept shops. I was particularly impressed with the Markthal, a massive indoor food market that is a feast for the senses. The colorful displays of fresh fruits and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, and exotic spices are a testament to the city's commitment to food and its diverse culinary offerings. As the day drew to a close, I found myself drawn to the city's vibrant nightlife. Rotterdam has always been known for its lively party scene, but now there seems to be something for everyone. From trendy rooftop bars with stunning city views to intimate jazz clubs and underground techno parties, the city truly comes alive at night. Overall, my visit to Rotterdam was a pleasant surprise. The changes that have taken place over the past 50 years have transformed the city into a modern, cosmopolitan hub that is a joy to explore. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this vibrant and ever-evolving city. How Do You Treat Your Enemies? Keith January 16, 2023 by Keith Comments (4) 'Don't gloat when your enemy falls, and don't let your heart rejoice when he stumbles, or the LORD will see, be displeased, and turn His wrath away from him'. (Proverbs 24:17-18 HCSB). How we treat our enemies says a lot about our relationship with God... Society today takes great joy in the falling and stumbling of those seen as our adversaries or opponents... Such attitudes permeate our civil and political discourse... We rejoice whenever our enemies fail. We grow up like this. How often, as kids, did we mock someone who physically fell or stumbled? It's natural that as adults we rejoice in the falling of our enemies... Sometimes we even attach divine justice to their stumbling as proof that God prefers us and looks out for us against our enemies... Such sentiments, however, are evil in the eyes of the Lord. Jesus commanded His followers, 'I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you' (Luke 6:27-28 NLT). He called upon His followers to love their enemies. in fact, for Him, this was the principal characteristic for those belonging to the kingdom of Heaven-love your enemies. While rejoicing in our enemy's failures and failings is simple human nature, love of our enemies requires our obedience to Jesus... In a world where the misfortune of our enemies provides cause for rejoicing, Jesus demands His followers to live differently, to love their enemies. Even the misfortunes of those hostile to our faith and God we cannot celebrate, for God causes His rain and sun to come upon the righteous and unrighteous alike (Matthew 5:45). God does not distinguish between friend and foe in His mercy, and neither can we (Luke 6:36). The test of our faith is not how we treat those who think like us, act like us, or even like us... The test of whether we are true followers of Jesus is how we love those who don't think like us, who are not like us, and who don't even like us. 'Don't rejoice when your enemies fall. don't be happy when they stumble'. Father, may we walk in obedience to You today by loving our enemies and showing mercy to them, as You show mercy to them... in Jesus wonderful name Amen. Grateful for the job I didn't want Katiebug December 16, 2022 by Katiebug Comments (0) After I was forced to leave my job of almost 5 years without notice because of the behavior of a new manager, I eventually accepted my current job. . There were some minor red flags, but I was already in pretty deep, and sick of looking, so I went forward with it. . Transitions and change are always challenging and this has been no different. . I didn't realize that a job change can trigger trauma you thought you had worked thorugh and throw it at your manager.(s) . But, it turns out I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. . I don't know where my current manager came from, but he is an absolutely incredible human being. . I fear that he's gone through the kind of trauma that's none of my business. . I hope not. . . . To avoid accidentally becoming dependent on him, I'm going back to therapy once my insurance changes in January, but having given up so many benefits from my last job, with all my doubts, and all my triggered trauma responses, I couldn't ask for a better manager and person who is willing to guide me through it with respect, empathy, and honesty. Jesus' Birth Keith December 15, 2022 by Keith Comments (3) The time came for the baby to be born, and [Mary] gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. (Luke 2:6-7) I wonder if you spotted something different in this reading? Instead of 'no room . . . in the inn' we had 'no guest room'.. It's a recognition that the Greek word traditionally translated 'inn' is better translated as 'guest room'.. It makes more sense because given that Joseph was of the line of David he could probably have knocked on almost any door, listed his ancestry, been identified as a distant relative and been offered a room. What seems likely is that the house where Joseph and Mary planned to stay had only two rooms: one for the family and one for the guests. For some reason-possibly the census-the guest room was full. The only alternative was the lower part of the house, where the animals were usually kept. Of all the traditions associated with Jesus' birth, one of the most reliable is that he was born in a cave, and it's quite likely that the lower part of the house would have been cut in a cave-like way from the rock. So, the baby is born, wrapped in strips of cloth and placed in the manger-the animal feed trough. That this was highly unusual is suggested by the shepherds being told that 'the baby in a manger' is a sign. With Jesus' birth we come to something quite extraordinarily profound. Christian teaching is that, in this baby, God was somehow entering his own creation. The all-powerful Maker and Sustainer of everything-from tiniest bacteria to largest galaxy-is reduced to a few pounds of helpless flesh. This is the extraordinary truth that we call the incarnation-that, in Jesus, God became one of us. It is an extraordinary descent from highest majesty to lowest insignificance, from unbelievable wealth to desperate poverty. What can we learn from this? Well, we get some idea of exactly how much God loves us. being born in this context set the pattern for the rest of Jesus' earthly life. There is another thing worth noticing-the phrase that Luke uses: 'She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger . . . 'At the end of Luke's Gospel, in chapter 23, we read that Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body and 'then he took [the body] down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock'. The parallel is very striking. For our sake Jesus became the lowest of the low, quite literally from the cradle to the cross. Lord Jesus, as we at this Advent time marvel at the fact you became human in order to show your great love for us, thank you that by your death and resurrection we can now know freedom from the past, new life today and a hope for the future... in Your name Amen. God Bless You myCBN Brother's and Sister's. The Five Steps to Heaven Naphtali October 13, 2022 by Naphtali Comments (1) Step 1. I have sinned. " For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. " Rom.3:23. The first step in becoming a child of God is to learn what I am in God's sight and to accept what He says about me. God says that we are all sinners. We have all said wrong things and done wrong things. sin is a terrible thing. It hurts us and it hurts others. But the worst thing about sin is this - sin hurts God's heart. Do you know why sin hurts His heart? Because God is holy. and because He loves us so much. You cannot get did of your sins by doing certain things, but the Lord Jesus can forgive sins. He loves you and wants to forgive you of all your sins. Jesus is "the friend of sinners." He will never turn away anyone who comes to Him. He said, "...him that comes to me, I will never cast out" (John 6:37). ...... STEP 2. God loves me. ......."For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." John 3 :16 Whom does God mean when He says "the world?" He means all the people in the world . That includes you and me! Whom does God mean when He says "whoever"? He means anyone. You can put your name in this verse. Why not do it right now? For God so loved------------- that He gave His only begotten Son, that------------------ believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. Now read it out loud with your name on the blank spaces. There, that is good news, isn't it? ...... STEP 3. Christ died for me. "God shows His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 This is good news: God loves sinners! God is saying to us, "I really love you! I have shown my love for you in giving my Son to ..... die ..... for you." .....God cannot overlook our sins of pretend that He does not know about them. What did God do about our sins? God gave His only Son to pay the penalty for our sins. The LORD Jesus Christ died for sinners. He died for you and me. You can say, "Christ died for me!" Say it right now-- "Christ died for me!" ....not only did Christ for for our sins, but He also rose from the dead. He is a living Savior! He has all power in Heaven and on earth. He can forgive your sins and make you a child of God. .... STEP 4. I receive Him. Our next verse tells us how to become a child of God. The Bible says, "As many as received Him, to them have He power to become children of God......" John 1:12 To become a child of God, you must come as a sinned to the Lord Jesus and receive Him as your Savior. You take Him as your Savior by asking Him to come into your heart. Your heart is like a house with a door. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if anyone hears My voice and opens The door, I will come in......" Revelation 3:20 . STEP 5. I have everlasting life. ."He that believes on the Son has everlasting life....." John 3 :36 This verse tells us that if we believe in the Lord Jesus, we have everlasting life. . .The Bible says, "These things have I written into you that believe . on the name of the Son of God. that you may KNOW that you have eternal life. ... ... ....... ....... ....... ....... ....... ....... Edit Delete Devotion Naphtali October 9, 2022 by Naphtali Comments (0) Satisfied by Righteousness But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19 Man hungers for food, and God sends the sun and rain upon the golden fields of grain. The grain is made into flour, and flour into bread, and man's physical hunger is satisfied. Man hungers for love. and God ignites the fire of affection in another heart, and two hearts are made complete in the bonds of holy matrimony. Man hungers for knowledge, and God raises up institutions of learning, calls men to be instructors, puts it into the hearts of the rich to endow them. and men are satisfied in their thirst for knowledge. Man hungers for fellowship. and God allows him to build cities where men can share their industry, and their knowledge, and their skills. Don't tell me that God can supply man with an abundance of everything material and yet will let him starve spiritually! . . . God will satisfy the hunger and thirst of those who desire His righteousness because He loves the world with an undying affection. Today's Prayer You have abundantly supplied my greatest need, heavenly Father, for You have given me love. ...... Edit Delete What is Grace Naphtali October 8, 2022 by Naphtali Comments (1) .Many years ago, Dietrich Bonhoeffer coined a term that has come to characterize much of evangelical Christianity, it's the term "cheap grace." Cheap grace is in reality a self-imparted grace, a pseudo-grace, and in the end the consequences of living by it are very, very costly. Cheap grace is not at all a reference to God's grace. it's a contemptible counterfeit. It's a grace that is "cheap" in ..value, ..not cost. It is a bargain-basement, damaged-goods, washed-out, moth-eaten, second-hand grace. It is a man-made grace reminiscent of the indulgences Rome was peddling in Martin Luther's day. Cheap? The cost is actually far more than the buyer could possibly realize, though the "grace" is absolutely worthless. Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor and Nazi resister. He was hanged in 1945 by SS guards, but not before his writings had left their mark. Bonhoeffer's theological perspective was neo-orthodox, and evangelicalism rightly rejects much of his teaching. But Bonhoeffer spoke powerfully against the secularization of the church. He correctly analyzed the dangers of the church's frivolous attitude toward grace. After we discard the neo-orthodox teachings, we do well to pay heed to Bonhoeffer's diatribe against cheap grace: Cheap grace means grace as a doctrine, a principle, a system. It means forgiveness of sins proclaimed as a general truth, the love of God taught as the Christian "conception" of God. An intellectual assent to that idea is held to be of itself sufficient to secure the remission of sins. The Church which holds the correct doctrine of grace has, it is supposed, ...ipso facto ...a part in that grace. In such a Church the world finds a cheap covering for its sins. no contrition is required, still less any real desire to be delivered from sin. Cheap grace therefore amounts to a denial of the Incarnation of the Word of God. Cheap grace means the justification of sin without the justification of the sinner. Grace alone does everything, they say, and so everything can remain as it was before. "All for sin could not atone." The world goes on in the same old way, and we are still sinners "even in the best life" as Luther said. Well, then, let the Christian live like the rest of the world, let him model himself on the world's standards in every sphere of life, and not presumptuously aspire to live a different life under grace from his old life under sin (The Cost of Discipleship ...[New York: Collier, 1959], 45-46). Cheap grace has not lost its worldly appeal since Bonhoeffer wrote those words. If anything, the tendency to cheapen grace has eaten its way into the heart of evangelical Christianity. While verbally extolling the wonders of grace, it exchanges the real item for a facsimile. This bait-and-switch tactic has confounded many sincere Christians. Many professing Christians today utterly ignore the biblical truth that grace "instruct us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and godly in the present age" (Titus 2:12). Instead, they live as if grace were a supernatural "Get Out of Jail FREE" ticket-a no-strings-attached, open-ended package of amnesty, beneficence, indulgence, forbearance, charity, leniency, immunity, approval, tolerance, and self-awarded privilege divorced from any moral demands. Sadly, the rank-and-file Christian is further cemented in an unbiblical view of grace by what comes out of some seminaries. There are scholars who actually legitimize the error as a correct understanding of grace. They call their teaching "grace theology" and their movement "The Grace Movement." They advocate a "grace" that alters a believer's ...standing ...without affecting his ...state. ...It is a grace that calls sinners to Christ but does not bid them surrender to Him. In fact, no-lordship theologians claim grace is ...diluted ...if the believing sinner must surrender to Christ. The more one actually surrenders, the more grace is supposedly watered down. This is clearly not the grace of ...Titus 2:11-12. No wonder Christians are confused. Christian churches mirror the world. Christian leaders follow the culture. and Christian theologians provide their stamp of approval. The situation is nothing short of deplorable. But here's what I propose &..mdash. let's start by laying down a ...biblical ...definition of grace with this simple question: ...What is grace? Grace ...is a terribly misunderstood word. Defining it succinctly is notoriously difficult. Some of the most detailed theology textbooks do not offer any concise definition of the term. Someone has proposed an acronym: GRACE is ...God's ...Riches ...At ...Christ's ...Expense. That's not a bad way to characterize grace, but it is not a sufficient theological definition. One of the best-known definitions of grace is only three words: God's unmerited favor. A. W. Tozer expanded on that: "Grace is the good pleasure of God that inclines him to bestow benefits on the undeserving." Berkhof is more to the point: grace is "the unmerited operation of God in the heart of man, effected through the agency of the Holy Spirit." Grace is not merely unmerited favor. it is favor bestowed on sinners who deserve wrath. Showing kindness to a stranger is "unmerited favor". doing good to one's enemies is more the spirit of grace (Luke 6:27-36). Grace is not a dormant or abstract quality, but a dynamic, active, working principle: "The grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation&..hellip.and instructing us" (Titus 2:11-12). It is not some kind of ethereal blessing that lies idle until we appropriate it. Grace is God's sovereign initiative to sinners (Ephesians 1:5-6). Grace is not a one-time event in the Christian experience. We stand in grace (Romans 5:2). The entire Christian life is driven and empowered by grace: "It is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods" (Hebrews 13:9). Peter said we should "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). Thus we could properly define grace as ...the free and benevolent influence of a holy God operating sovereignly in the lives of undeserving sinners. Paul frequently contrasted grace with law (Romans 4:16. ...5:20. ...6:14-15. ...Galatians 2:21. ...5:4). He was careful to state, however, that grace does not nullify the moral demands of God's law. Rather, it ...fulfills ...the righteousness of the law (Romans 6:14-15). It does not annul the righteous demands of the law. it confirms and validates them (Romans 3:31). Grace has its own law, a higher, liberating law: "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2. cf. ...James 1:25). Note that this new law emancipates us from sin as well as ...death. ...Paul was explicit about this: "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?" (Romans 6:1-2). Grace reigns through ...righteousness ...(Romans 5:21). That ...is the good news of the gospel! God has acted to set us free from sin &..mdash. not just the consequences, but it's very power and presence. One day we will never know the experience of temptation, a stray thought, a misspoken word, a false motive. Guilt will be gone, and with it shame, and "so we shall always be with the Lord" (1 Thessalonians 4:17). In the meantime, we enjoy the liberation from sin's cruel power and defiling influence. God has enabled us, through grace, to "deny ungodliness and worldly desires" so that we can enjoy a sensible, righteous, and godly life in the present age (Titus 2:12). "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). . . . . . .
