Who were they writing to? What Dispensation were they in? (Time Past, But Now, Ages To Come) CHART --”TIME PAST” ---- “ BUT NOW” ---- “AGES TO COME" https://romansthruphilemon.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/chart.gif MORE SCRIPTURE ABOUT “TIME PAST” --- “BUT NOW” --- “AGES TO COME” In the 2nd chapter of the book of Ephesians the Apostle Paul gives us a panoramic view of his understanding of the way God's dealings with mankind have been divided. He does this by making a clear, distinct and easily identifiable threefold division (DISPENSATION – a system of order, government, or organization of a nation, community, etc., especially as existing at a particular time): TIME PAST (Ephesians 2:11-12 --- Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world) BUT NOW (Ephesians 2:13 --- but now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ) AGES TO COME (Ephesians 2:7 --- that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Jesus Christ) Thus we see that the WORD of God itself, provides us with the key to its own proper understanding and right division. **TIME PAST – In Matthew through John we find the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ to the nation of Israel. In the book of Acts we have the fall of Israel and salvation going to the Gentiles (You and I today and anyone who is a non-Jew) through the ministry of the Apostle Paul. **BUT NOW – Romans through Philemon (the 13 epistles of the Apostle Paul) provide the doctrine for the present dispensation of GRACE. **AGES TO COME – Hebrews through Revelation focus on the ages to come when God will bring to fruition His purposes for Israel and the Body of Christ. We are not the only people in the programs and purposes of God. All of the bible is FOR us but it is not all TO us nor is it all ABOUT us. If we FAIL to recogonize this important fact we will never be able to properly understand just what God is doing today nor would we know just what He would have us do. Thus it is in Paul's writings alone that we find the doctrine, position, walk and destiny of today's church, the Body of Christ. (Ephesians 1:13 --- In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise) We fully trust and believe the gospel of our salvation, which tells us that we have been redeemed!!! Redemption – Freedom by payment of a price Propitiation – Means satisfaction, or to satisfy (in a biblical sense, this word means to satisfy the justice of God. (Romans 3:21-26 --- But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.) *** Some people don't believe it is enough just to BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus Christ to be SAVED. They think there must be more to do. The scripture makes it clear that God is FULLY SATISFIED by the work of Jesus Christ. Knowing this, we had better be satisfied with what God says is enough, or we may just find ourselves opposing God. Since God is completely satisfied once and for all with this PAYMENT of sin, than we can rest assure that there is no sin left unpaid that can send us to hell, once we BELIEVE in our heart. Only believing in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone for our justification will SAVE us, not confessions to a priest, not walking an aisle and saying the prayer of repentance, not water baptism, not paying tithes, but by FAITH in Christ alone without works. It is God's Grace that saves us, and it is that same Grace that disciplines us. This is taken directly from God's word and can be found in (Titus 2:11-14 --- For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.) We have all heard the idiom, “what is popular is not always right”. This is extremely evident today among those claiming to teach sound doctrine from within the WORD of God. We must not forget that what is true is true, no matter how many, believe. (Romans 3:4 --- God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.) –-- Many people are following the wrong doctrine, because of their ignorance of the message or deception by Satan and his ministers, unknown by many people, although Christ has conquered sin and death he has not yet returned to claim his rightful position over the heaven and earth. We live in a 'present evil world' where Satan is the 'prince of the power of the air'. (Galatians 1:4 – Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father), (1 Corinthians 2:8 – Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the LORD of glory), (Ephesians 2:2 – Wherein time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience). --- We must beware of the tradition of men that is after the world, and not after Christ, because the course of the world is under Satanic influence: (Colossians 2:8 – Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ), (Ephesians 2:2 – Wherein time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience) In the dispensation of the GRACE of God, God's policy of SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH not of works. (Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast) ---- Satan's policy is to preach salvation by works in order to minimize the cross of Christ and to condemn man's soul. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 – But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them) The tradition of the world teaches a religious achievement by-works salvation which is in opposition to God's GRACE. Even many ministers that preach the WORD of God, do so ignorant of the REVELATION of the MYSTERY which was kept secret since the world began, and so cannot preach Christ according to the REVELATION of the MYSTERY: (PAUL'S EPISTLES) -- (Romans 16:25-26 – Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, but now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith) Many so-called ministers of righteousness will teach whatever doctrine pleases their congregation, but in doing so they turn from the truth: (2 Timothy 4:3-4 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers , having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables), (2 Timothy 1:13 – Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus) The APOSTLE PAUL taught that we are saved by GRACE through FAITH in the BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST(Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast), (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures) ---- The Bible says that Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, was made sin for us and that he paid our sin debt on the cross. (2 Corinthians 5:21 – For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him), (1 Timothy 3:16 – And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory), (Romans 3:25 --- Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God). ---- It is only through this FAITH in Christ that we obtain eternal life. The Apostle Paul (our Apostle for this "BUT NOW" Age), preached according to the REVELATION of the "MYSTERY", which was "KEPT SECRET SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN". This revelation was ONLY given to THE APOSTLE PAUL by Jesus Christ – NOTE the following Scripture: (Galatians 1:11-12 --- But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ). ****The APOSTLE PAUL, is the Apostle for the GENTILES (us), he was appointed to go to the Gentiles by Jesus Christ -- (Romans 11:13 -- For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office), (Ephesians 3:1-9 -- For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, if ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; that the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
