The whole of The Lord's Prayer is broken into the two (2) following themes -- 1) Petitions Magnify God's Glory and Honor; 2) Petitions that communicate Our Needs as Pilgrims on Earth... In this First Part, we will realize That God, The Subject to whom we address our Prayers, is to be thought of as Jesus has revealed Him to us, as Father. We will then focus on the first and most important petition we can actually ever pray -- That God's Name, Reputation, Character, Power and Attributes may be Magnified throughout the earth and in our hearts and minds.
God's Glory and Honor...
Our Father in Heaven is the subject of the entire prayer. It both reminds us that in Jesus The God of Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, (et cetera), The God of the Hebrews is our Father and again, only through Jesus, do we have access to Him and we are now under his tutelage and privileges.
"All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him" (Matt 11:27, Luke 10:22).
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me'" (John 14:6). Have we asked Jesus to reveal the Father to you and thanked him for the revelation given of God as a Father thus far?
May Your Name be Honored, (Hallowed, made Holy among us). This is the very first thing Jesus said to pray. It requires God to make His Name and Reputation accurately known -- it is a prayer that God would be thought of as He actually is, that He would be thanked for His many blessings, sang to in Songs of Praise, trusted in all situations, and The House of God would be where we contribute a tenth of our actual income...
Psalm 100
All Men Exhorted to Praise God.
A Psalm for Thanksgiving.
1Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth.
2Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
3Know that the LORD Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
5For the LORD is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.
(Habakkuk 2:12-14)
12“Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed,
And founds a town with violence!
13“Is it not indeed from the LORD of armies
That peoples labor merely for fire,
And nations become weary for nothing?
14“For the earth will be filled
With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
As the waters cover the sea.
Dear Father, thank You for The Gift of Your Son -- May we Honor You in our thoughts, words, deeds, speech, actions and REACTIONS, and May Your Name Be Kept Pure from all insult and vain swearing, and whatsoever may be dishonorable to You, and may in fact the Truth about You from The Bible be taught, preached and shared throughout the earth as the water abundantly covers the seas (Numbers 14:21), in Jesus' Name
