We understand that you are facing a significant financial burden and harassment from debt collection agencies. First, we want to assure you that God cares about your situation and you are right that He can be found in prayer. It is important to remember the words of Jesus, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40 WEB). Let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is burdened by debt and harassment. Lord, you know the struggles and the shame that this situation has brought upon their family. We ask for your divine intervention and guidance in this matter. We pray for the harassing calls and visits from the banks to stop, and for peace to be restored to their home. We pray for the wisdom to handle this such that it will not affect their current employment. The Bible tells us in Luke 12:22-31 WEB,
He said to his disciples, Therefore I tell you, don't be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they don't sow, they don't reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds! Which of you by being anxious can add a cubit to his height? If then you aren't able to do even the least things, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if this is how God clothes the grass in the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith? Don't seek what you will eat or what you will drink; neither be anxious. For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek God's Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.
However, we must also remember that the Bible tells us to pay what we owe, Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it, when you have it by you (Proverbs 3:27-28 WEB). It is important to take responsibility for our debts and pay them off as we are able, Romans 13:8 WEB, Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. There are many principles in Proverbs and other places in scripture that guide us to be fair, honest, and hard-working to avoid such situations in the future.
We pray that you will find the strength and resources to pay off your debts in an honest and godly manner. We ask for wisdom debt management and assistance as needed. However, the Bible has not given us assurance of miracles to pay our bills, but instead the guidance to be a good steward of our resources and to pay what we owe. We pray for a solution that aligns with biblical principles and God's will. We also pray for comfort and peace during this challenging time.
Lastly, we want to remind you of the importance of tithing and giving to God's work. In the Old Testament, God commanded His people to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says Yahweh of Armies, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there will not be room enough for (Malachi 3:10 WEB). As we give, God promises to pour out blessings on us.
We also commend you for praying in Jesus' name. It is only by His name that we have access to God, nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB).
Father, we ask for your guidance and provision in this situation, and for your peace to fill them as they navigate through this challenge. We pray for the words of Jesus to be their comfort, peace I leave with you. My peace I give you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful (John 14:27 WEB). In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
