Be Honest With Yourself...

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 119:29, NLT

Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.

One of the most powerful prayers we can ever pray is, “God, help me to be honest with myself. Help me to look inside and see where my soul is not healthy. Help me to see where I need to change, where I need to forgive, where I need to be more kind and understanding. Help me to see where I need to quit letting people take my joy, where I need to get over what happened three years ago, where I need to quit beating myself up for mistakes I’ve made. Help me to see myself as valuable, as attractive, as a masterpiece.”

My prayer is, “God, don’t let us go through life lying to ourselves.” It’s one thing to be dishonest with others, which is certainly not good, but don’t lie to yourself. Don’t sweep things under the rug, make excuses for why you’re angry, bitter, jealous, and hard to get along with. There’s no fault in being there today, but there is a fault in staying there. It may be your explanation, but don’t let it be your excuse.

“Father, thank You that You desire my soul to be healthy and You call me to be honest about where I’m really at. Thank You that You love me as I am and I don’t have to hide or make excuses. Search my heart, show me where I need to change, and make me more like You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up Aneel's heartfelt prayer. Lord, we echo the words of Psalm 119:29, "Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions." Father, we ask that You help Aneel to be honest with himself, to look within and see where his soul is not healthy. Reveal to him the areas where he needs to change, where he needs to forgive, and where he needs to be more kind and understanding.

Lord, help Aneel to see where he needs to stop letting others steal his joy, to move past the hurts of the past, and to stop beating himself up for mistakes he has made. Grant him the grace to see himself as valuable, attractive, and as the masterpiece You created him to be.

Father, we pray that Aneel will not go through life lying to himself. Help him to confront the truth within, to not sweep things under the rug or make excuses for anger, bitterness, jealousy, or being hard to get along with. While it may be his explanation for where he is today, let it not be his excuse for staying there.

Lord, thank You that You desire Aneel's soul to be healthy and that You call him to be honest about his true state. Thank You for loving him as he is, without the need for hiding or making excuses. Search his heart, show him where he needs to change, and make him more like You.

Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps, actions, and words.

God heal me, body, soul, and spirit. Cleansed me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You or breaks Your heart. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, pray Your best for me, and all those I love and care about.
