ARE YOU ON A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY WITH THE LORD? - Part 1
Will you go on a Spiritual Journey with your Lord? Are you needing to get serious about praying, standing and believing that God can and wants to heal, restore and resurrect your dead marriage? You may be needing to start a new walk with the Lord or you may be doing a self-examination of where you are spiritually with the Lord God already.
Let me share two scriptures that show us the importance of our marriage. May you not be deceived about the severe consequences for every family member who has to go through your and your husband/wife’s divorce. Your children will have to deal with your divorce for their whole life on holidays and all their special occasions. If God hates divorce, shouldn’t you and I?
The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for himâ€...Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man...For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Genesis 2:18, 22, 24
...So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. “I hate divorce,†says the Lord God of Israel. Malachi 2:15-16
Never doubt the power of God as you face all your different circumstances.
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for youâ€...“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?†Jeremiah 32:17, 27
Your spouse may have just told you they are leaving and that they do not love you. In fact, they may say they do not think they really ever loved you. Your spouse is determined to terminate your marriage regardless of your pleas. They need to be happy. They need time to think and they are moving out of the house to do this. Your spouse may be pulling away from you, but they may stay home longer than planned. That is a praise. If they do, ask the Lord to show you how to love them unconditionally. The Lord can still touch their heart any day or hour. Once a person starts speaking separation and divorce, know that the enemy has a foothold in their life and is tempting them to fall into sin. You need to become the prayer warrior for your family. If you haven’t started praying diligently, you need to start immediately.
“In your anger do not sinâ€: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Ephesians 4:26-27
Your home has just been attacked and bombed like the Twin Towers in New York City. The enemy is no respecter of persons. You could be a pastor’s wife, a Bible teacher, or a parent who has a grown daughter or son that has told their spouse they are leaving and they were raised in church all their life, or you may have never gone to church. Today, you need to run to the Lord for His wisdom and His knowledge, His instructions and protection.
You may be in shock, you are hurting, but your Lord God has ALL the answers! Seek the Lord to change you first to become the person that He wants you to be. While the Lord is changing you, your spouse will start to notice that you are becoming different!
You may have known, deep in your heart, that there were problems in your marriage, but everyone has problems once in a while. You were giving your spouse time to start acting and feeling better. You were not sure if there were problems at work which were causing them some stress or pressure. Now your spouse blames you, possibly, for all the problems. Some prodigal spouses take the blame completely and say it is not your fault, but there is nothing you can do to rebuild or restore your marriage. They want a divorce.
Your spouse has been on an emotional detour being tempted in their thought process to get off the road of marriage. They have been tempted by the enemy with thoughts of every excuse as to why they need to separate and live a separate life. Reasoning does not work at all. The children? Your children can adjust. Your spouse is saying, “Fifty percent of all marriages have problems that end up in divorce. We are not any different! It will be better for each of us, including the children. The children will not have to listen to our arguing and fighting.†Usually at this point, most people will not reconsider. Pray that your spouse will be willing to go to a counselor to try to save their marriage or a marriage conference. The problem is the enemy, their friends and the world has brainwashed them that separation and divorce is NO BIG DEAL!
Will you go on your own spiritual journey to stand in the gap for your beloved spouse? Will you start praying and personalizing two or three scriptures with your spouse’s name in them interceding that the Holy Spirit will touch, change and transform their hardened heart at any moment! God can touch and change hearts and lives every day.
For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! Romans 7:22-25
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart…Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:22, 25-26
