If you are listening to the news everyday, you see many people are reeling without hope. Some people believe our nation is doomed and who can blame them. We have allowed God to be taken out of everything. Our economy and infrastructure is imploding because of this pandemic. Over 25 million people are without jobs, states are closed, possible meat shortages, food lines, businesses going bankrupt, death, lies, corrupt media, riots and looting. The list can go on and on.
But throughout scripture - God provides a way of redemption. He has a different plan if we would listen and heed His word. Just like Ninevah, they were a sinful and rebellious people, so is the United States. We need to know and feel the security of God's provision not in our government or world. We are in a path of self destruction as was Ninevah. This storm is revealing people's character and our impending doom if we don't do something about it.
I heard someone in an interview the other day talking about how we didn't see it coming and he said something that I thought was interesting. He said, "the problem with most people is that they don't believe something can happen until it already has. It's not stupidity or weakness, it is just human nature". As a nation we didn't think that something like 911 would ever have happened to the United States but yet it did. The same thing with this pandemic. Who would have ever imagined we would be in the situation we find ourselves in today.
So what do we do about it? Well the church needs to wake up and fight this storm head on. We are all in the same storm yet in different size boats. But you know a good Captain can be a game changer. So who is your Captain - yourself or God? We need to trust and wait with joyful expectation to see God's hand at work in our situation. As believers, we need to reach out to people in need and not just physically but spiritually as well. God wants us to be like Jonah and spread the gospel and preach repentance and salvation to the lost nation. Don't think we can't have a great revival in this nation, because anything is possible. Look at what we are experiencing. Anything can happen!
Pray for God to open the door to many opportunities in your day to day lives. Pray for revival and hearts to be turned to God during this time. Pray for God's mercy and love to be spread through you. In James 1:5, it says, "the promise of guidance is given to those who will listen and obey". We can't be just hearer's of the word, we must be doers of the word.
So ask yourself, are you going to be the Jonah at the beginning of the story or the Jonah at the end of the story? This is your choice. I am sure you won't get swallowed by a great fish if you are choosing to be the first Jonah but you won't be doing what God has asked us to do.
Ecclesiastes 7:13-14 states, "Consider what God has done; who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider; God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future."
God is in control, we are not! David stated in Psalm 142:3, "when my spirit was overwhelmed within me, you knew my path". God knows our path and we need to surrender to Him and allow His peace to overtake us. Have mercy on us O Lord! Light the fire in every believer so that your light only will shine in this dark world!
