This video explains it very well.
When you believe in Jesus, it must be that you are different from other non believers.
If you are saved, you are not longer a sinner, you are a new creature in Christ Jesus.
Something that never existed before.
You are completely new in your reborn spirit.
You are not a sinner any more.
Sinners sin by default and they love it, but we believers, we dont want it, we sometimes hate it, because our new recreated spirit doesnt bare it, we are holy, blameless and pure in our true new reborn nature.
We sin because of the old nature in us.
Thats why we must clothe ourselves every day anew in Christ so that Holy spirit will reign in us and not our old nature.

The soul that sinneth it shall die... says Gods word. That is so true to all of us who once believed, trusted and waited for the Lord. But there are people like Judas Iscariot who was following Jesus till money and material possesions got into his system and the devil got him totally telling him to betray the Lord. Be honest, be sincere before the Lord. Live a life that pleases God. He said. Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no one shall see the Lord. Love one another as I have loved you. Yes, there are temptations of all kinds all over the place but we must obey Jesus voice. Follow Me, I will make fishers of men.

Sorry, it cannot be both. Otherwise, God would be a schizophrenic. You are a new creature in Christ Jesus. Your new nature is not a sinners nature any more. You have (i hope so) a reborn spirit in you. Non believers dont have it. Maybe you should listen to the teaching one more time?

Explain why Christians backslide.

Sister, we will never die, we have the spirit of resurrected Jesus inside of us. If you are new born believer, you have that spirit in you. We only suffer the consequences of sin if we commit them. If God sais we are new creatures in Christ Jesus and we are like Jesus Christ, we cannot die because Jesus is immortal, in Jesus name, amen. You can only die in your physical body.

Backsliding can be only what we see with our own eyes. And we cannot see what God is doing inside of that person.
Some christian are walking in the flesh, not in the spirit. Some are not born again but only believe in Jesus. Some will be tested because of the things God has for them, for making them more holy, wiser, stronger, smarter, full of faith, full of the gifts of the spirit etc....
 
If you love the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul and stay away from sin and evil, then Jesus is waiting for you at the gates of heaven. Just obey what He said. Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no one shall see the Lord. Salvation means to be filled with the Spirit of the living God in you. So you will not sin against Him. Temptations and sin will come to you just like Jesus was tempted in the desert but keep your eyes on the the Lord. Cast satan out of your life and he will flee from you. How can we know we are saved? Jesus clearly answered. By their fruits ye shall know them. If you have peace, joy, happiness in your life then you are saved. If you have anger, rage, hate and depression and worry then you need the Lord in your life.
