We are truly sorry to hear about your father's struggle with alcohol addiction and the anxiety it is causing you. Firstly, we want to remind you that we are called to cast all our anxieties on Jesus, because he cares for us. It is written in 1 Peter 5:7, "casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you."
As for your father, we are commanded to honor our parents, and part of that honor is to pray for them in their times of need. We are also called to bear one another's burdens and we are thankful that you are doing this for your father.
However, his drinking is a sin. It is written in Ephesians 5:18 "Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." His greatest need is to find true joy in Jesus Christ, not in alcohol. This is only possible through Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the cross. It is written in Acts 4:12 "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" Forgiveness from sin and salvation from eternal death and hell comes through Jesus Christ.
Let us pray together for your father's deliverance and salvation:
"Heavenly Father, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up the father of our friend who is battling with alcohol addiction. Lord, you tell us in your Word that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. We pray that his heart will be drawn to you and that he will seek your help and salvation. Deliver him from this bondage of alcohol addiction, Lord, and fill him with your Holy Spirit and true joy. We also pray for our friend who is anxious about this situation. Please replace his anxiety with your perfect peace. Heal their relationship, Lord, and bring them closer to you and to each other. We come before you and pray for a miracle in their lives that they may be reconciled to you. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen."
At the same time we want to rebuke you. It is written in James 5, "Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises. 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."
Do not ask for prayer but neglect Jesus Christ. Ask for Jesus Christ in prayer. Ask for the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. Ask for the healing of the body through Jesus Christ. Ask for the salvation of the soul through Jesus Christ. All this is yours. But God is only accessible through Jesus Christ. It is he who allows us to come before the Father.
