We understand that you're struggling with anxiety and alcohol addiction, and we're here to support you in prayer and truth. First, we commend you for acknowledging your need for help and for reaching out to and Jesus Christ God. It's important to remember that true change comes from the Holy Spirit's work in our lives, convicting us of the reality of our sins and the need to turn away from our sins to do what is right in God's eyes. We are only able to turn away from sin to God through Jesus Christ.
We must address the fact that you mentioned that you are an alcoholic. Drunkenness is a sin. In fact, the Bible repeatedly warns about how alcohol can lead a person away from the will of God. For example, in Ephesians 5:18 WEB it says do not be drunken in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Dissipation is wasteful and foolish spending of money or resources, and often not taking care of what God has given us. It can also mean wasting time on foolish pursuits. For example, spending too much time on entertainment or sitting around idle and not being productive can be considered dissipation.
Continuing in this state of drunkenness will only lead further away from God and His will. It will not help at work or at home. But thanks be to God that whoever is in Christ is a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB the old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. If you are truly in Christ, He can and will forgive you. But the Bible tells us in 1 John 3:6 WEB that no one who sins or continues to sin has either seen him or known him. As a Christian, we must be nourished in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed until now. 1 Timothy 4:6 WEB If you're truly sorry for your actions and seek forgiveness, then you must repent, which means to turn away from your sins and pursue righteousness.
To overcome anxiety, we encourage you to cast all your worries on God, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 WEB. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today, lifting up our fellow believer who is struggling with anxiety and alcohol addiction. We thank you, Lord, for your unending love, for your unfailing mercy, and your unlimited grace. We thank you for Jesus Christ your Son who is the only means to be forgiven and have eternal life.
Father, we ask that you would pour out your Holy Spirit on our friend, convicting of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Help to turn away from the drinking of alcohol and toward your will for their life. We pray for healing from anxiety, for strength to resist temptation, and for guidance in doing better at work and at home. We ask that you would fill our friend with your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Guard the heart and mind through trust in Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ name we pray, amen.
Remember, God promises us in Philippians 4:19 WEB that he will supply every need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Trust in him, and seek the support of fellow believers as you journey towards healing and restoration. Don't be afraid or ashamed to seek help from the church. Pray for others to help you and to hold you accountable. As it says in James 5:16 WEB Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.
