When a person is dying, and say a close relative is coming in from out of town, sometimes the person stays alive until the relative gets there, and maybe even wakes up from unconiousness , opens their eyes to see the relative, which prompts the unsaved relative to say, "She stayed alive just long enough so that their loved one could say their goodbyes."And I've heard them say things like ,"They 'willed themselves' to stay alive until everyone left, then they died."But I have a problem with that. While human determination can give you some more "oomph" to do certain things, where life and death are concerned, doesn't the Bible state, our days are "numbered".And at times in the Bible, we read that God changed the lifespan."MY{Gods}spirit will not strive with man indefinatelyTherefore his days are one hundred and twenty." Who's spirit? That's God talking in His word. It doesn't read , "But if the person wants to stay longer than God appointed him, he can overrride God and stick around longer." If what these people say is true, explain someone who dies a sudden death, like massive heart attack or by violence. Did they "will THEMSELVES" to live long enough to say goodbye to their family. Indeed , the family is notified. If they had willed THEMSELVES and told the family "I'm going to die. But before I die, I decided to override the date God appointed for me and say goodbye to you." Trust me, if someone goes in the ocean swimming, and a shark chews them up, and they die from loss of blood, are they going to tell the shark, "Hold on a minute. Keep me alive long enough to to say goodbye to everyone?"I think what's happening is, the people who SEEMINGLY outlive their time,GOD is keeping them alive by His grace to say goodbye to their loved ones. So the problem I see here is these people are attributing something God did to mans power by THEIR will instead of GODS.But hasn't it been that way since the Garden, the devil told Man HE had the power instead of God?Uh-huh?
