Servant of All
Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, I lift my soul in humble adoration and praise to you. I know that every good and perfect gift comes from you, so I ask you for success today. Your word promises, “commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3). We pray, Lord, that You might help us to feel the joy in music, the harmony that sums up Your love, and that in exploring a higher purpose for our voices we might know You better. Singing is a powerful way to express our feelings, emotions, and desires to God. When we sing a hymn or a spiritual song, we are offering our whole selves to God in prayer. We can use the words of the song to express our faith, our needs, and our gratitude. There is an exhortation in Scripture to pray—and sing—with our spirit and our understanding. “I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding,” Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:15. You are a good God, and it is good and right to praise you through song, to give thanks to you with my voice, my guitar, my piano. God, help me faithfully steward my musical skills, limited though they may be, for your glory and the flourishing of others. O Lord, Let my mouth be filled with Thy praise, in order that I be able to sing; my lips will rejoice for as long as I sing unto Thee. I will give praise unto the Lord of my life. I will sing psalms unto God all the days of my life. Lord, thank you for these musical gifts you've entrusted to me. I know I will be held accountable for my stewardship of these talents. I want to play well, for Your glory alone, and I want to use this time well that you've given to me. All these I pray in My redeemers Christ Jesus name I pray AMEN.
