We are so glad you have taken the first steps towards freedom and deliverance from alcoholism, and that you have a desire to draw closer to God. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can be saved and set free. Remember, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. We therefore want to remind you of your powerful position in Jesus Christ. First of all, as a believer, you are not condemned. No longer are you bound by guilt.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death" (Romans 8:1-2 WEB).
Know also that as you continue to fight this battle the Lord Himself is with you, and this God who does give you strength. If you can imagine facing this temptation and overcoming in your strength and endurance then you can see how powerful you are in His might
"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13 WEB).
Submitting the desire for alcohol and the pain to Jesus can be done with these words.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I come to pray for Kytramon as she battles this addiction. Alcoholism is a pit of destruction, but you, Lord, are a very present help in trouble. Today she has made a strong first few steps and she needs you go be faithful to help cope with the desire and temptation that will surely come to try to ensnare her. We send our prayers to the Lord for our sister's deliverance, healing and restoration.
Furthermore, wherever there is a darkness and confusion, or the bondage of addiction, God can shine His light. Darkness cannot encompass light. Our Heavenly Father can banish the darkness and remove it from our sister. The same light that Jesus spoke of to banish darkness can be revealed to you again, and shine brightly in your heart.
For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, proving what is well pleasing to the Lord.
The assurance of this promise is found in this verse which speaks to your request.
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed," (Luke 4:18 WEB).
You may feel like this changed you forever, and wonder who you are now. As you expose yourself to the truth of the gospel you will be awakened again to God's role in your life. In Christ you are a new creature and old things have passed away.
Finally, pray for God to guide your footsteps as you look to find a good church. As a Christian you will be guided by the Holy Spirit as you seek Him and His will, and a good church is not only where a Christian has fellowship but also where they learn, better understand, and practice what the Bible teaches. A good church is full of loving members, who are living holy and honest lives.
Regarding your daughters we are so glad you see a calling for them to know Jesus. Don't doubt that you are the perfect person to show them Jesus. They will learn how to persevere and depend on the Holy Spirit. As you go further with your prayers and experience your faith we encourage continued reflection and pray that your faith continues to grow.
May the road ahead be clear for you to see, for your heart to be filled with peace and assurance and continue to this hard thing. We have assurance in the scripture as the Lord says "I am with you no matter where you go" and " Nothing gives me the power to separate you from My love".
If you can find a good standard to go with at first remember this:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.Mark 12:30
