Beray, we are truly sorry to hear about the difficulties you are facing with your husband's alcoholism and the pain it is causing you. We will stand with you in prayer and offer some biblical guidance. Let us address this together.
Firstly, it is important to remember that God hates drunkenness and it is sinful. Since you or your husband did not say that he is a Christian, the Apostle Paul's words would be missed. However, even secular people realize how destructive alcoholism is. 1 Corinthians 6:10 WEB states, "nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit God's Kingdom." Alcoholism is clearly a sin that separates us from God and you husband needs immediate salvation, baptism, and to be drinking of the Holy Spirit that he can have eternal life and stop trying to fill the void with alcohol. Your husband is attempting to fulfill something with alcohol when only the Holy Spirit can help him and heal his heart.
The Bible also teaches us to respect and submit to our husbands, but it does not mean we should endure abuse or sinful behavior without taking a stand. Ephesians 5:22-23 WEB says, "Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body." However, 1 Peter 3:1-2 WEB also advises, "In like manner, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don't obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word; seeing your pure behavior in fear." You can influence your husband by your godly behavior and prayers, but you should not tolerate abuse. This is not only referring to physical abuse, but verbal abuse as well.
Let us pray for you and your husband:
"Father, in the name of Jesus, we lift up Beray and her husband to You. Lord, we pray for his salvation. We ask that You break the chains of alcoholism that have bound him and heal his heart. We pray for his deliverance and that he will be drinking of the Holy Spirit and be filled with the Spirit. We ask that You give Beray the strength, wisdom, and patience to endure this trial and to influence her husband through her godly behavior. Protect her from any form of abuse and guide her in Your will. Lord, we pray that Your will through this trial and marriage be done. In the name of Jesus, a, we are asking for a miraculous intervention of the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit drink deeply into his heart and help him to overcome his alcohol addiction. Give him great wisdom to decide to follow Jesus Christ faithfully for the rest of his life in Jesus name. Additionally, if he cannot then have the Holy Spirit come into his life, convict him of his sin and need for forgiveness. If he still cannot have the Spirit come into his life, then have some other Christians befriend him and bring him to the cross and be saved. If he cannot be saved then finally break the bond of marriage between them so that Beray can be an evangelist and minister the Gospel to a husband that will be equally yoked with her. But, most of all, we would like to see this marriage saved. Have the Holy Spirit come into his life so their marriage can be saved and be a godly example. Help Beray to have wisdom for whatever situation the Holy Spirit want to bring them through, whether it is salvation of her husband and marriage or being saved from the marriage and having a new evangelistic marriage.
The Lord has wonderful plans for your life Beray.
Now, please discuss this issue openly with your husband. Make sure that he understands that this request was made and many people are praying for him, whether he is a Christian or not. Where he decides to turn and drink of the Holy Spirit or reject the Holy Spirit, you will be able to witness to his reaction. Based on his reaction you should have some direction how to proceed. Make sure you have 2-3 Christian friends or advisors that agree and can confirm whatever decision(s) you will need to make.
Beray, remember that you need to pray in the name of Jesus for God to intervene in your situation. Acts 4:12 WEB tells us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" There is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus wants to save your and your husband from the bondage if alcohol. Have faith that with prayer anything is possible. Mark 9:23. Beray make sure your husband realizes that you and a group of praying Christians are praying for him and having faith for his deliverance and salvation from alcohol. Your faith may inspire him to have faith for his deliverance and salvation. Therefore, pray with confidence for his life and be a positive witness of the Gospel.
We are standing with you in faith, believing that God will transform your husband's life and bring healing and restoration to your marriage. Continue to seek God's will and trust in His unfailing love for you. Have faith in Jesus name. In Jesus name, have confidence in your faith. Do not neglect meeting together as believers, especially now. Hebrews 10:25. Thank you for bringing this to us. Keep us posted on progress.
