We understand your struggle and concern, Dexter2020. We want to assure you that God looks at the heart and not the amount given. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, the WEB says, "Let each one give, as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or out of compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
Firstly, we want to address the issue of tithing. Tithing, which is giving 10% of one's income, is an Old Testament principle. In the New Testament, we are not bound by this law but are encouraged to give cheerfully and according to what one has, not what one does not have. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 8:12, "For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have."
It's important to note that your relationship with Jesus isn't based on how much you give. Jesus himself commended the poor widow who gave two small coins, saying, "This poor widow has given more than all those who are giving into the treasury, for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on." (Mark 12:43-44 WEB)
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in Jesus' name, lifting up our brother Dexter2020. Lord, you know the struggles he's facing, the uncertainty of unemployment, and the worry of bills. Lord, we ask that you provide for his needs, that you comfort his heart, and guide his steps. Help him to know that his worth is not measured by what he can give, but by his heart for you. Thank you, Lord, for your unending love and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, we want to encourage you to continue trusting God and to cast all your anxiety on him, for he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). Keep pursuing a personal relationship with Jesus, and remember that it's not about meeting a quota but about a loving Father who wants to communicate with you. If you're feeling distant from God, call out to him, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13 WEB).
