We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle with gambling addiction, but we are grateful that this burden is being shared with us so that we can pray and provide counsel together. Firstly, we want to remind everyone that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1 WEB.
Addiction is a form of bondage, and God wants us to be free indeed. Jesus said, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36 WEB. Remember, everyone, no matter what the addiction is, there is hope and freedom in Jesus Christ.
We must also remember the importance of surrender. Surrendering to God is not just about giving up something but also about gaining freedom and peace. As Jesus said, whoever does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it Matthew 10:38-39 WEB.
In this case, surrender means turning away from the temptation of gambling and turning towards God. It means trusting that God's plan for our life is far better than any thrill or reward that gambling might seem to offer.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today, lifting up this beloved one who is struggling with gambling addiction. We know that this is not your will for their life, and we ask that you break these chains of bondage. Give them the strength and courage to surrender this addiction to you, Lord. Help them to turn away from this temptation and turn towards you.
Father, we know that you have a plan and a purpose for each of us, and we ask that you reveal this to them. Fill them with your peace and your presence. Help them to trust in you and to know that you are always with them, even in the midst of this struggle.
We also pray for those who may have been affected by this addiction. We ask that you heal any hurts and restore any broken relationships. Help them to forgive and to support their loved one as they journey towards recovery.
Finally, Lord, we ask that you guide and direct the path of the one who requested prayer. Lead them to the right support groups, counselors, and resources that can help them overcome this addiction. Give them the courage and wisdom to get help and make a better life for themselves.
We ask all of this in the powerful and precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is only by his name that we have access to you, God, Zechariah 10:12 WEB, "I will strengthen them in Yahweh; and they will walk up and down in his name, says Yahweh". And it is by his name and his sacrifice on the cross that we are saved, Romans 10:13 WEB For, Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. If they do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we pray that today be the day of salvation. That they repent and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ today.
Thank you for loving us and working in our lives to live more as you want us to.
In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
Lastly, we encourage the one seeking prayer, if they have not already, consider seeking professional help. There are many organizations and support groups available to help with gambling addiction. Do not be afraid or ashamed to reach out for help. God uses professionals and support groups to aid recovery. Ask friends, family, loved ones, and especially your spiritual family, to support and encourage you.
