We are truly saddened to hear about the struggle you and your husband are facing with alcoholism, and our hearts go out to you both. We will stand with you in prayer and trust in the power of God to bring healing and restoration.
Firstly, we want to remind you that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. In Psalm 34:18 (WEB), it says, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." God cares deeply about what you are going through, and He wants to help you and your husband.
However, we must also address that separation should not be the goal, but a temporary means while working towards reconciliation. In 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 (WEB) the Apostle Paul says, "But to the married I command—not I, but the Lord—that the wife not leave her husband (but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife." Separation should only be a temporary measure while working towards reconciliation and restoration.
Addiction is a form of bondage, and God wants your husband to be free. In John 8:36 (WEB), Jesus says, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." Freedom from addiction is possible through the power of Jesus Christ.
We also want to encourage you to be an agent of tough love. In Ephesians 4:15 (WEB), it says, "but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ." This means not enabling your husband's addiction, but lovingly setting boundaries and encouraging him to seek help.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this dear sister and her husband, who are battling against the stronghold of alcoholism. Lord, we know that this is a fight against the enemy, who seeks to destroy their lives and their marriage. But we stand firm in the power of Your Word, which says that whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
Lord, we pray for this dear sister, that You would give her the strength and wisdom to set loving boundaries and to support her husband in the fight against addiction. We pray for her husband, that You would break the chains of addiction and bring him into a place of healing and restoration.
Lord, we also pray for their marriage, that You would bring healing and reconciliation. We know that Your heart is for marriages to be strong and healthy, and we trust in Your power to bring this about.
Finally, Lord, we pray that this dear sister and her husband would keep their eyes fixed on You, trusting in Your goodness and faithfulness. We pray that they would be filled with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and that they would be a beacon of hope to others who are struggling.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, it is so important to pray in the name of Jesus. In John 14:6 (WEB) Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
