History tells us about a highly prized area/room that was once accessible by people without any restrictions. Unfortunately an ill-conceived act perpetuated by our distant relatives, negated those privileges. Now access has been relegated to one person only.
The Hebrews and Egyptians enjoyed the use of symbolism integrated with their daily lives. The physical application was equally as important as it's metamorphical application.
The bible from the onset teaches us about physical places that are separated in three parts (trichotomy).
1) The Garden of Eden was segmented in three parts: Eden itself, the guarden (eastward), and at the third being outside Eden in the land of Nod (a less than pure place);
2) We have the temple where it is generally divided in three parts; the outercourt, the innercourt, and the Holy Place. The outercourt was seen as being less than the other courts; and
3) The trichotomy of man; the spirit, the soul, and the body 1 Thessalonians 5:23. In this case, the body is seen as corrupt. So here we have three places, with their respective sacred areas, and all three places holds one less pure area. The verse below clearly draws a relationship between the temple and man.
1 Corinthians 3:16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
All three of the above places also had restrictions placed in their innner chamber.
a) In the Garden of Eden, we have two Cherubim and a flaming sword guarding the entrance;
b) In the temples, the Most Holy Place is guarded by a vail and only the High Priest is permitted to enter, not to mentioned the temple guards; and finally
c) man's body, soul, and spirit also has a similar protocol set in place. The spirit is not accessible without faith in Jesus Hebrews 10:11-13. He is the way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus is our only access to the tree of Life.
Adam and Eve's sin is not specifically stated but it must have revolved around fear. They felt that they were lacking. They wanted knowledge and doubted God. Doubt is fear! Fear is an instinctive behaviour found in our body. The body is our corrupt part that will not make it into heaven. Faith in the other hand is found in our spirit. Fear denies us entry to the tree of life but faith grant us access. Faith is unselfish but fear is selfish. Faith is the nemesis to fear. God did not give us a spirit of fear...2 Timothy 1:7
Fear or faith stands between you and Jesus. You can not please God without faith Hebrews 11:6.
