Let's turn to the Bible to understand the role of the law and the Ten Commandments in our lives as believers in Jesus Christ.
Firstly, it's important to note that the law was given to show us God's holy standards and our need for a Savior. As it is written in Romans 3:20, For by works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight; for through the law comes the knowledge of sin. (WEB)
Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. In Matthew 5:17, Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfill. (WEB)
However, we are no longer under the law but under grace. In Romans 6:14, For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace. (WEB)
This does not mean that the law is irrelevant. The Ten Commandments reflect God's moral principles, which are still applicable to us today. Jesus summarized the law in two commandments: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. (Matthew 22:37-40 WEB)
As believers, we should strive to live in obedience to God's moral principles, not to earn our salvation, but as a response to His love and grace. Our motivation should be love, not legalism. In John 14:15, If you love me, keep my commandments. (WEB)
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Your law, which shows us Your holy standards and our need for a Savior. We thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to fulfill the law and to save us from our sins. Help us, by Your Holy Spirit, to live in obedience to Your moral principles, not out of legalism, but out of love for You and others. Help us to remember that we are no longer under the law but under grace. Teach us to walk in Your ways, for Your glory and our good.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
In your request, you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, Jesus, or Christ or an abbreviation such as IJN (In Jesus Name). It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12 WEB)
