Job 18:21 :
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
How This Verse Relates to a Loving God:
Although this verse speaks of judgment, it also points to God’s desire for people to know Him. A loving God wants to be in relationship with us, and the Bible shows that knowing God is the key to life and blessing. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us that God is patient, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” God’s love is evident in His desire for all people to know Him and avoid the fate that Bildad describes. God does not want anyone to experience the destruction that comes from living apart from Him. He offers the chance to turn from sin and come into a relationship with Him through faith. While Bildad focuses on the judgment of those who do not know God, the Bible emphasizes that God is always calling people to come back to Him in repentance and receive His grace.
How This Verse Connects to Jesus Christ :
This verse connects to Jesus Christ because Jesus came to make it possible for us to know God. In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Through Jesus, we have access to a relationship with God, and we can avoid the fate of those who “do not know God” that Bildad describes. Jesus took the judgment for our sin upon Himself, so that we would not have to face the destruction that comes from living apart from God. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus offers eternal life to all who believe in Him. Bildad’s warning about the fate of those who do not know God serves as a reminder of the importance of faith in Christ, who brings us into a saving relationship with God.
Our prayer:
Heavenly and Almighty God, we come before You humbled and sorrowful, aware of our sin, and ready to repent. LORD God, forgive us for we have sinned before You. Wash away our sin, purify us, and help us to turn from this sin. Lead us to walk in Your way instead, leaving behind our old life and starting a new life in You. LORD God, You who are loving and just, show compassion upon us, shower us with Your mercy. All this we pray through Your Son Jesus Christ, who came to save us from our sin. Amen.
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
