Let's first acknowledge the emotional strain you're experiencing. It's important to set boundaries and understand the dynamics of your relationship with this friend. We should always be willing to help others, as Scripture tells us to "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2 WEB. However, it's also important to ensure that our relationships are healthy and that we are not being taken advantage of.
Firstly, let's address the expectation of a relationship. If you thought he was interested in you, but he doesn't seem to be, it's important to communicate openly about this and understand each of the positions in this friendship. If he is not interested in you as a spouse, then pursuing this thought needs to be put aside. It is very important to note that courtship should be with the intent for marriage. It is also important to be in courtship with a fellow believer in Jesus Christ.
As we are called to be compassionate and helpful, we should also be wise in our interactions. If you feel that he is taking advantage of your kindness, it may be time to establish some boundaries. Consider the words in Proverbs 25:17 WEB, "Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you." Similarly, it's important to ensure that your friend's constant requests for help are not becoming a burden. It's okay to help, but it's also okay to say no when necessary.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, in Jesus' name, lifting up our sister who feels overwhelmed by the constant requests for help from a friend. Lord, grant her wisdom to discern the right boundaries to set and the strength to communicate them effectively. Help her to navigate this friendship in a way that honors You and brings glory to Your name.
We pray that You will guide her and her friend in their relationship. We pray for Godly spouses for each of them if it is not each other.
Lord, we also pray for her friend, that he may find the help and support he needs, whether through her or other means. Guide them both and work in their hearts for your will. We also pray that both her and her friend are believers in Jesus Christ. We pray that this belief is made known to each other and that a courtship can be made with the goal of marriage to each other or a Godly spouse.
Father, we ask that You bring peace and clarity to this situation, and that Your will be done in their lives.
This we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
Lastly, remember that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. If either of you do not believe in Jesus Christ, then please seriously consider believing in him. If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
