We understand that forgiving enemies and those who persecute us can be incredibly challenging, but it is a fundamental teaching of Jesus Christ. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you (Matthew 5:43-44 WEB).
Forgiveness is not about saying that what the other person did is acceptable; it is about releasing the bitterness and resentment that can harm our own hearts and souls. It is about trusting that God will deal with them justly and fairly, as Psalm 37:28 WEB tells us, For Yahweh loves justice, and does not forsake his saints. Forgiveness is about reflecting the character of Christ, who forgave even those who crucified Him, saying, Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing (Luke 23:34 WEB). We are encouraged to live in peace with everyone if possible (Romans 12:18).
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up Anonymous who is struggling with forgiveness. Help them, Father, to release the pain and bitterness they feel towards their enemies and those who persecute them. Fill their heart with Your love and peace, and give them the strength to forgive as You have forgiven us. Guide them in their journey towards healing and restoration, and bless them with the same grace and mercy You have so freely given to us. Remind them that it is only in the name of Jesus Christ that we can come to the Father (John 14:6). Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us as believers in our journey. Guide them in their journey towards healing and restoration, and bless them with the same grace and mercy You have so freely given to us.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).
