When we invite the Holy Spirit into a place, several profound things happen. Firstly, we see from Scripture that the Holy Spirit brings the presence of God Himself. Jesus promised, "If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world can't receive; for it doesn't see him, neither knows him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you." (John 14:15-17 WEB)
The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and guides us into truth. Jesus said, "When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment." (John 16:8 WEB) This means that the Holy Spirit will reveal to us the areas in our lives that need change and point us to the righteousness of Christ.
Moreover, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in prayer. "In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered." (Romans 8:26 WEB) He prays through us, aligning our hearts with God's will.
The Holy Spirit also empowers us with spiritual gifts. "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:7-8 WEB) These gifts are for the edification of the body of Christ and the advancement of God's kingdom.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. As we invite Him into our lives and spaces, we ask that You fill us anew with Your presence. Reveal to us any sin that needs to be confessed and turned away from, and guide us into all truth. Help us to pray according to Your will, and empower us with Your spiritual gifts. May our lives and homes be a testament to Your glory, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
When inviting the Holy Spirit, it is essential to remember that He is a person, not a force or an impersonal power. We should approach Him with reverence and respect, seeking to align our lives with God's word. If there are any areas in our lives that do not honor God, we should be willing to repent and turn away from them. Only then we can experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit's work in and through us.
Lastly, let us remember the words of Jesus, "Apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5 WEB) It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can live lives pleasing to God. Therefore, let us continually invite Him into every area of our lives.
