As believers, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit at the moment of our salvation. It is a one-time event that occurs when we put our faith in Jesus Christ. As Ephesians 1:13-14 WEB says, "in whom you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvationโin whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of Godโs own possession, to the praise of his glory."
However, there is also a continuous process of being filled with the Holy Spirit, which is different from the initial sealing. This filling is a repeated, ongoing process where we yield ourselves to the Spirit's control and influence. Ephesians 5:18 WEB tells us, "Donโt be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." The phrase "be filled" in the original Greek is in the present continuous tense, implying a constant, repeated action.
So, while we do not need to ask God to seal us with the Holy Spirit repeatedly, we should continually ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit, yielding to His guidance and power in our daily lives. This is not because we lose the Holy Spirit and need to be re-filled, but because we need to continually surrender to His lordship.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, acknowledging our need for Your presence in our lives daily. Thank You for sealing us with Your Holy Spirit when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. Today, we yield ourselves to You afresh. Fill us again with Your Holy Spirit. Guide us, teach us, and empower us to live lives that honor and glorify Your name. Help us to walk in Your ways, understanding Your will, and obeying Your commands in Jesus Name.
In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
Let us continue to pursue a life filled with the Holy Spirit, desiring the fruits of the Spirit to be manifest in our lives, and endeavoring to be a blessing spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.
