Hi all. Wow we are on day five of praying and looking to God for wisdom. Today I would like to talk about why we stand. I have noticed some people questioning if God ever told them to stand, if it is the right thing or should they even bother.
Standing for you marriage can be hard, but it doesn’t have to. On Sunday I asked why do you stand and what has God spoken to you regarding standing for your marriage. These are very important questions to ask yourself.
Are you standing because you want to “be right After all you didn’t cheat you were faithful and if you don’t do “wrong†everyone will see what your spouse is really about? Is it pride that you are standing for because you don’t want to be a failure? Is it the “feeling†of love? Do any of these sound familiar.
If so you are like the Pharisees. They fasted and told everyone and rented their clothes so everyone could see how “holy†they were. Are you telling everyone that you and your spouse is separated or divorced and that you are standing because it is the right thing to do? If when you finish speaking to someone about your stand, the person feel sorry or pity for you, check what you are saying.
There are times I have to check and remind myself why I stand for my marriage. I stand for my marriage because I believe God. God told me to stand for my marriage. I wanted a divorce and I kicked my h out. But God. I stand for my marriage because my husband’s salvation is important to me.
I sat down over the past 18 months and really asked myself some hard questions regarding standing for my marriage and what was my true motivations. Sometimes it is hard, and I do want to give up. But what does giving up mean, to me it means that I am giving up on God. And yes there are honestly times I really want to give up on God as well. YES I SAID IT. There are times when I feel you know what if I wasn’t a Christian it would be so bad. I can go and do as I please. I have to only worry about myself etc. But is that really better than knowing that God is your strength. Wasn’t I already there which is why I turned to God in the first placeJ.
God never told us this walk would be easy but then I realize something, what would giving up really change. Would it be any easier? I would still be separated. I would teach my children that if something doesn’t go your way quit and move on. I would teach my children that marriage is a throw away institution. I would also be telling them two wrongs make a right. My boys are a case, J during the first 6-8 months they were constantly telling me to go and find someone else. To move on. Now they don’t encourage me but they don’t speak negatively about my h and they even call him themselves. God can turn around anything.
You will notice most of my reasons for standing do not have very much to do with me. I learned a long time ago that it doesn’t have anything to do with me. When I get tired and discouraged I have to remind myself what God told me one time when I complained about being tired and can’t do it anymore. God told me “I didn’t tell you to do anything. I told you what I was going to do. You are just along for the ride.†When I get really tired I realize that I have slipped into the driver’s seat. That is not my position on this journey.
Being the analytical person I am, I of Couse ran a lot of scenarios through my head and asked myself if that would make me stop standing. At that time I was really in pain and leaning totally on God. Even to just wake up in the morning, and there was no scenarios that would make me quit, because it is not about me. It is about God.
So everyone really take some time today and figure out why you stand. If you are not standing for the right reasons you will get tired and you will give up. If it is about you and what you want, you will be humbled. Put God first in you stand. That is the only way you will endure.
So today in you journal or on the separate piece of paper that you answered the three questions on Sunday, write you rehma verses. The promises of God. All that he has promised you. When you feel like giving up this is your life line to keep you grounded and pressing forward.
Then continue in you journal:
. Write any prayer you have for Today. Anything you need for today. No matter how small.
Also write anything you are thankful for today and some praises to God. For he is worthy and deserves it. Amen.
If you still have time or at some point today. Find a verse or scripture text reading. Anything out of the bible and read and meditate on it for a few minutes, then write a little bit about what you got from it, how it made you feel. Anything.
(We will do these every day).
