Fasting is a sacred and biblical practice that helps us draw closer to God and seek His will. In the World English Bible (WEB), Jesus said, "However, this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting" (Matthew 17:21). Fasting is going without food for a spiritual purpose and a spiritual time with God.
When you fast, it is important that you are entering a dedicated time of drawing closer to God in Jesus' name. The norm for fasting is to have a dedicated beginning and set aside the normal routines to draw closer to God. Having breakfast then beginning a fast would not follow the norms of historical Christian or biblical fasts. When fasting to God, even when no one else sees you, it is still important to follow God's standards. In Matthew 6:17-18 WEB, Jesus said, "But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
In addition, you mentioned that you are fasting for three days, but you won't be eating until Sunday at 9 or 10 am. It is important that if you are fasting for three days that it is actually a three day period of fasting. Extending the fasting time to the evening would be more appropriate. It is also important to remember the purpose is spiritual and to be done in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and it is only by the name of Jesus that we can be saved.
Let us pray together for encouragement and guidance:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in Jesus name, lifting up our brother/sister who is preparing to fast and seek Your will. Lord, grant them the strength and discipline to follow through with this fast in a way that honors You. Help them to draw closer to You during this time, and reveal Your purposes and plans to them. We ask that You forgive them for any sins in Jesus Christ name and that you empower their time with you. We pray this fast brings life transformation in Jesus name. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to begin your fast according to Biblical standards and end the fast as appropriate. If a three day fast is too much for you, consider fasting for a shorter period of time. If you need further guidance or have any other questions, please feel free to ask. We are here to support you in your spiritual journey.
