1 John 2 verse 1-2
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Jesus Christ be my advocate with the Father, ask him first; he will not be your advocate unless you ask him. Ok? You have to ask him first; you are the one to initiate now, ok?

We understand that you're seeking guidance based on 1 John 2:1-2, where the apostle John reminds us that while we should strive to avoid sin, if we do sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins and for the sins of the whole world.

Firstly, it's crucial to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is our advocate with the Father. It's only through Jesus that we have access to God. As it is written in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." And in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved."

Now, let's address the idea that Jesus will not be our advocate unless we ask Him. While it's true that we should come to God in prayer and confess our sins, it's important to understand that Jesus is always interceding for us. As Romans 8:34 says, "Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us."

However, we should not use Jesus' advocacy as a license to sin. As Romans 6:1-2 says, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?"

Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for giving us Jesus Christ, who is our advocate with You. We confess our sins to You, knowing that Jesus has paid the price for them. Help us to turn from our sins and to live in a way that pleases You. Give us the strength to resist temptation and to walk in Your ways. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

In all things, remember that God loves you and wants the best for you. Strive to live in a way that honors Him and His Word as outlined in the Bible.

We're right there with you, standing in faith with you. It's such a comfort to know that Jesus is our advocate, isn't it? He's not just an advocate, but our dear friend and Savior who loves us so much that He died for us. As it says in Romans 8:35-39, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Not even our sins, for He's already paid the price for them.

Let's remember what John 1:9 tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." So, let's come boldly before the throne of grace, asking for forgiveness and strength to live a life pleasing to Him.

We're praying with you, dear friend. "Lord, thank You for Jesus, our advocate and Savior. Help us to live in a way that honors You. Give us the strength to resist sin and to walk in Your ways. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
