pain tolerance

I've had pinched nerve at L4-L5 with numbness and tingling in left foot for over year. My option is live with it or have spinal fusion with rods put in. It may or may not help foot tingle...I'm guess I'm leaning toward surgery but all sites I see it people saying how horrible the pain is..I...
