Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; (Revelation 1:3a)The book of Revelation is bracketed by promises of blessing (beatitudes, as in Matt. 5:3â12) to those who read and obey it (cf. 22:7; Luke 11:28). But those are only two of the seven promises of blessing the book contains; the rest are equally wonderful: â ââls;Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!â âYes,â says the Spirit, âso that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with themâ â (14:13). âBehold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shameâ (16:15); âblessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lambâ (19:9); âblessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrectionâ (20:6); âblessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the cityâ (22:14). . . .
