When we think of friendship, we think of equality. We think of sort of face-to-face communication. We donât think of hierarchy. We donât think of demands and commands, and submission and authority. We donât think of friendship that way. But that rather strange reality of âyou can be my friend if you do everything I say to youâ is exactly what Jesus says in this passage. âI want you to be My friend.
